Japan’s July Trade Balance

The July Japanese Trade Balance figures were released slightly worse than expected. The market continued to push the JPY higher on the release moving to it’s best levels across the board. The release was as follows in terms of JPY:

  • Merchandise Trade Balance Total - Survey: 390.0B   Actual: 380.2B   Prior: 508.0B
  • Adjusted Merchandise Trade Balance - Survey: 342.0B   Actual: 194.5B   Prior: 438.2B
  • Merchandise Trade Exports (YoY) - Survey: -38.4   Actual: -36.5   Prior: -35.7
  • Merchandise Trade Imports (YoY) - Survey: -42.4   Actual: -40.8   Prior: -41.9

In addition, the Corporate Service Price Index came in as expected at -3.4%; lower than the prior release of -3.2%.
